A charity hike for the Angels of the Mountain

A hike from hut Aleko to Cherni Vrah in support of the volunteers who are in the mountains whenever someone needs help.

On 21 December 2019 a charity hike took place for the Angels of the Mountain, the Mountain Rescue Service Dupnitsa team of the Bulgarian Red Cross. As people who love the mountains, as colleagues ready to help, we wanted to support an initiative with a clear aim: raising funds for equipment for the rescue team. So we did it in the way closest to our hearts, with a hike from hut Aleko to Cherni Vrah.

They are among us, they are one of us, they are ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to come to the rescue.

Who are the Angels of the Mountain

Back in 1954, on 18 December, a course for mountain guides was being held in the area of the Ribni Ezera hut. An avalanche buried 42 of them, and three died. Six volunteers from Dupnitsa took part in the rescue operation. Two months later the town's rescue core was formed. At present the team numbers 22 volunteers who, in the past year alone, took part in over 30 operations to rescue and assist people in the mountains.

In a few lines it is impossible to describe the dedication, the teamwork, the effort, the nobility and the strength of spirit of these people. What could be nobler than saving a human life, and doing so voluntarily, at times risking your own.

Together we succeeded

After the hike we managed to raise a sum for the purchase of three GPS devices, which were handed over to the team. With thanks to all the participants, we are glad to have met so many kindred spirits. We promise to make every effort so that this event will not be the last, but on the contrary, will become a tradition. Thank you.
