🌲 THE RHODOPES NOT EVERYONE KNOWS… 🏔️

There are places that are not visited simply to be seen. They are lived. 💚

This October we invite you on a true Rhodope adventure, far from the crowds, among ancient forests, forgotten villages, old fortresses, rocky peaks and those endless Rhodope views that stay with you long after you have returned home.

We will walk old paths once travelled by people and animals, discover places hidden deep in the mountains, touch the history of ancient fortresses and feel the magic of some of the wildest corners of the Rhodopes.

And… of course, we will not go without a little adrenaline! 😉

🌳 DAY 1: MEETING THE ANCIENT FORESTS

We begin the adventure with an easy and pleasant hike from the village of Borikovo.

Our first encounter is with a true natural wonder, the thickest tree in the upper Arda valley. The ancient beech has an impressive girth of a full 850 cm!

Then we continue past the old border fence to discover another beautiful tree, unusual for the Rhodopes.

🏔️ DAY 2: TO THE WILD VARADA FORTRESS

After a breakfast of real Rhodope mekitsi we set off on a long adventure through forests, meadows and places where time seems to have stopped.

We pass through deserted villages and ancient forests until the rocky peak of the Varada fortress gradually appears before us.

Fortress walls once rose here. Today barely visible traces remain, but the place has kept its wild beauty.

Sheer cliffs on almost every side guarded the fortress and made reaching it a real challenge.

And when we step onto the summit… The Rhodopes will be beneath our feet. ❤️

One of those places that hardly appear on tourist routes and are reached mainly by locals and true mountain lovers.

🌿 DAY 3: ALONG THE OLD RHODOPE PATHS

After the big hike, a more leisurely day awaits us.

From the centre of Mogilitsa we head to the Padala protected area, then continue to the Oreshe and Halevina localities.

Here we will feel a different spirit of the Rhodopes, that of the people who once worked these lands and spent the long summer days in the mountains.

The path leads us to Selimova Reka, a deserted village and former home of old master craftsmen of the region.

And for the finale… we sit down to a tasty lunch at the Konak in the village of Bukata. 🍽️

🏰 DAY 4: HISTORY, HEIGHTS AND ADRENALINE!

For the last day we have saved a special finale.

We touch an ancient fortress, and then we swap the calm of the mountains for a dose of adrenaline.

We will raise your pulse, share a laugh and make sure the last day becomes a memory you will talk about long after you return.

Because… the Rhodopes should be left with a smile and slightly trembling knees. 😉

🎒 Equipment:

Hiking boots, wind- and waterproof jacket and trousers, fleece, hat, headlamp, trekking poles, thermos, a small rucksack for a day hike and a personal first-aid kit.
